Idling around Delhi in a cab – a loafers dream come true!
There are times when you have a lot of time to spare and have nothing to do. A good thing to do is to come out of the closet and hang around different places to sort of unwind yourself.
There are not many articles or blogs talking about random places to hang around in the NCR. It’s a diverse region offering something for each and all. So how can you do an under-planned day trip?
What we mean is you book a cab to a random place and don’t have a plan per se. Let’s see.
Palika Bazar and CP
For a longish time, Connaught Place is the central hub of New Delhi. Not just for those reputed and important buildings in the region, but for the kind of market it can offer. Palika Bazar is an optimum place to hang around and window shop a myriad of items. From artifacts, clothings, shoes, electronics, Palika means a lot for those looking for good items at moderate prices.
Once done with Palika, loiter around the streets of CP to find more things to buy and explore. Why not go to Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and India Gate too, both within a short distance from CP.
Daryaganj Sunday Book Bazaar
The digital age has taken over our reading and writing habits, but books still hold an important place in our society. For book lovers, an early morning walk in Daryaganj means finding surprises. They have all kinds of books. From usual fiction and nonfiction regulars, they also offer school and college books. So an optimum place for students as well to grab books at a cheap price. Walk a km or so ahead and reach Lal Qila chor Bazaar. Here you find thrift items and ultra cheap daily use items.
Maybe end this captivating day by going to Chandni Chowk bazaar and immersing yourself with a wide number of delicious and famed delicacies available here.
Malls of Gurugram
Forget about the busy rush hours of CP and Lal Qila. Instead, pamper yourself with luxury dinings, cinema, shopping, and more. In the shiny malls and complexes of Gurugram thrives great restaurants (some of the world’s best). The multiplex cinema is a bit expensive, but it makes you feel like a king or queen. And if you need to buy dresses, home items, or anything awesome, these malls would become your perfect day out. And hey, while driving in & out of Gurugram, you’ll find these large roadside sellers of earthenware items and furniture from natural means. It won’t harm to have a look at what they have.
Akshardham Temple
If you’re an admirer of great architecture and believe in God too, then Akshardham temple is a must go place for you. Although crowded with tourists, this place can take you into the heart of Hinduism and their adoration for deities and Gods. Not far from here is the famous Lotus temple built by the Bahai people originating from Iran. Count that in your list of places to visit.
Hauz Khas region
This region has emerged as a hotspot maybe in the last three decades or so. But it now offers something for all. The 13th century complex tracing back to Khilji Dynasty takes you back in time. It was beautifully designed around a reservoir that still can be seen. Adjoining are the narrow lanes of Hauz Khas village that is teeming with shops and restaurants. It is a perfect quiet place to feel a day out in New Delhi. Very close from here is the famous Qutub Minar complex that you can also include in your day plan – promise it’ll be fun.
Bazaars of Lajpat Nagar and South Ex.
Book a cab first to Lajpat Nagar and feel the pulsating life that goes here every day. It’s a perfect hub for affordable priced shopping of good quality items. From clothings, electronics, to food, everything is available at Lajpat Market. After this fun, hop in a cab to South Ex (1 & 2) markets. They have good food places and high end shopping. Jewelers, banks, fashion hubs are the USP of South Ex. And if you love Pakoras then Khandani Pakodewala at Sarojini Nagar (near Bhikaji Cama) can be included in this day trip.
Other Places
The Garden of Five Senses in Saket, Ugrasen ki Baoli near Mandi House or Rajao ki Baoli in Mehrauli, tombs of eminent Mughal rulers, more shopping paradises, high energy temples, it is all within the Delhi vicinity. All depends what you feel like doing (or not doing).
